Minor Hotels Debuts in Morocco with 38-Key Anantara Retreat Rabat
Set in Rabat’s diplomatic area, the new 38-key luxury retreat blends traditional Moroccan architecture with contemporary luxury, catering to diplomatic, corporate, and leisure travelers. Developed in partnership with Bloom Holding, it marks the group’s first property in Morocco and is set to open in early 2030.
Minor Hotels has announced the signing of Anantara Retreat Rabat, marking the group’s official debut in the Moroccan market. The new luxury retreat is scheduled to open in early 2030 and will be the first Anantara-branded property in the country.
The development is a partnership between Minor Hotels and Bloom Holding, the Abu Dhabi-based real estate developer known for its diversified portfolio across residential, mixed-use, hospitality, education, and master-planned communities in the UAE and international markets.
A Strategic Entry into Rabat
Located in Rabat’s exclusive diplomatic area, the property sits approximately 20 minutes from the city centre. The site was chosen for its tranquil setting and proximity to the capital’s key business and cultural destinations, positioning it to attract diplomatic, corporate, and affluent leisure guests.
The 38-key retreat will feature luxury rooms, suites, and seven three-bedroom villas. Architecturally, the property aims to harmonize traditional Moroccan design with contemporary aesthetics, reflecting the character of its surroundings.
Amenities and Experience
Anantara Retreat Rabat will offer a range of dining and social spaces, including:
- A signature restaurant
- A Moroccan tea lounge
- Swimming pool areas
- Meeting rooms for business events
Guests will also have access to wellness facilities, including an Anantara Spa and fitness centers, consistent with the brand’s focus on holistic luxury experiences.
Leadership Commentary
William E. Heinecke, Chairman & Founder of Minor International (parent company of Minor Hotels), highlighted the strategic importance of the move.
“Morocco represents an exciting new market for Minor Hotels, and Rabat provides a particularly compelling setting for our first hotel in the country,” Heinecke said. “Anantara Retreat Rabat will bring the brand’s distinctive approach to luxury hospitality to a city where heritage, culture, nature and contemporary life come together.”
Carlos Wakim, CEO of Bloom Holding, emphasized the alignment between the two organizations.
“Our commercial partnership with Minor Hotels reflects Bloom’s commitment to working with leading global operators to deliver exceptional hospitality destinations,” Wakim said. “This partnership brings together shared expertise, strong international brands and a common commitment to quality.”
Rabat’s Rising Profile
The announcement aligns with Rabat’s growing stature as a cultural and tourism destination. In 2026, the city holds the title of UNESCO World Book Capital, recognizing its literary and creative heritage.
Morocco’s tourism sector continues to expand, with international tourist arrivals up 7% in the first five months of 2026. Improved connectivity, including additional international air routes, is further strengthening Rabat’s accessibility.
The signing is part of Minor Hotels’ continued expansion across the Middle East and Africa. This signing extends its luxury portfolio into a new market, introducing the Anantara brand to Morocco for the first time and signaling growing confidence in the Kingdom’s high-end hospitality sector.
