BTO Unveils Kasane-Kazungula’s $1B+ Investment Blueprint at Chobe Connect 2026

The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) took centre stage during the recently concluded Chobe Connect 2026 forum, driving critical conversations around sustainable tourism while spotlighting high-impact investment opportunities in the Kasane–Kazungula corridor.

A High-Level Dialogue on Reimagining Tourism

BTO Projects Manager Ms. Evah Mosetlhane moderated a compelling panel discussion themed “Reimagining Tourism for a Sustainable Region,” bringing together some of the industry’s most influential voices. The distinguished panel included:

  • Ms. Lily Rakorong – CEO, HATAB
  • Mr. Jobe Ofetotse – Coordinator, Kasane-Kazungula Redevelopment Project
  • Mr. Joseph Segopa – Secretary, Chobe District Council
  • Mr. Mokwena Morulane – Managing Director, Cresta Marakanelo Limited
  • Mr. Miltion Khachana – Director, Kwalape Tours & Safaris

Panelists explored forward-thinking strategies around infrastructure development, public-private partnerships, and the alignment of tourism growth with conservation priorities. Under Ms. Mosetlhane’s guidance, the session reinforced the urgent need for collaborative, multi-sector action to build a tourism industry that is environmentally responsible, community-driven, and economically resilient — one that serves both present and future generations.

A Tour of the Future: KKRP’s Four Priority Sites

Later on, the BTO led investors, stakeholders, and media on a guided tour of the four priority tourism development sites under the Kasane–Kazungula Redevelopment Project (KKRP), organised by the Special Economic Zones Authority. The tour offered firsthand exposure to transformative investment opportunities, including:

  1. The Residential Eco-Estate and Spa Hotel
  2. The Kasane Waterfront, Central Tourism Hub and Marina
  3. The Conference & Events Centre
  4. The Kazungula Waterfront Tourism Leisure Hub

Strategically positioned along the iconic Chobe River and at the gateway to Chobe National Park, these developments are set to redefine Kasane and Kazungula as a premier tourism and investment destination in the region.

The day’s engagements reaffirmed Botswana’s steadfast commitment to diversifying its tourism product, strengthening infrastructure, and unlocking sustainable investment opportunities that drive inclusive economic growth across the region.
