Latitude Hotel Group Expands into Tanzania with Kigamboni Resort
Latitude Hotel Group, the pan-African hospitality brand with established properties in Kampala, Lusaka, and Lilongwe, is making a significant move into Tanzania. The group has signed a non-disclosure agreement with Sanaabiz Investments Limited to develop and manage its first Tanzanian property—an 80-bedroom resort in Kigamboni, a rapidly developing district and peninsula in Dar es Salaam.
A Prime Location with Natural Appeal
Kigamboni offers the perfect blend of accessibility and escape. Located southeast of Dar es Salaam’s bustling city center, the peninsula provides a quieter natural alternative while remaining within reach of urban conveniences. The area is already gaining traction as a popular getaway destination, featuring attractions such as South Beach, pristine mangrove forests, and the newly constructed Nyerere Bridge—all contributing to its appeal as a hospitality destination.
A Comprehensive Resort Experience
The Kigamboni resort will be far more than a traditional hotel. The 80-bedroom property will feature:
- Standard rooms and two-bedroom apartments
- Conference facilities for business travelers and events
- Café and restaurants offering diverse dining options
- Full-service spa for guest relaxation
- General picnic areas and campsites for varied accommodation preferences
- Retail space for shopping and local artisan goods
- A district visitor and information center
- An outdoor performance space with a 5,000-person capacity
This multifaceted approach reflects Latitude’s commitment to creating comprehensive hospitality destinations rather than standalone hotels.
Maintaining Brand Excellence
Nick Brown, Executive Chairman of Latitude Hotel Group, emphasized the group’s dedication to consistency:
We have waited for a long time to locate the right property in Tanzania and the Kigamboni project ticks all the boxes for a Latitude designed resort.”
The group plans to commence preliminary work in 2026, with an opening target of 2028. Importantly, Latitude intends to maintain the design elements and operational standards that have defined its success in Uganda, Zambia, and Malawi. As Brown noted, the brand will expand to key African locations over the coming years, but without compromising on the quality and distinctive character that guests have come to expect.
Looking Ahead
This expansion signals Latitude’s confidence in Tanzania’s hospitality market and its strategic vision for pan-African growth. The Kigamboni resort represents not just a new property, but a commitment to bringing the Latitude experience to East Africa while respecting the unique characteristics of each destination.
