OTM 2026: Uganda Targets Indian Market in Aggressive Tourism Drive

The Pearl of Africa is making a massive splash in the Indian market! Uganda has officially launched an aggressive campaign to position “Brand Uganda” as a top-tier destination for Indian travelers, focusing on its rich heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and growing investment potential.

Led by the Uganda High Commission in India, in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and Uganda Airlines, the East African country is eagerly waiting to showcase its many wonders at the Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) in Mumbai scheduled for February 5-7. This high-profile participation will be followed by a presence at SATTE 2026 in New Delhi later this month.

Why India? Why Now?

The move is a strategic masterstroke. Speaking at the OTM opening, H.E. Amb. Prof. Joyce Kikafunda, Uganda’s High Commissioner to India, highlighted India’s status as one of the world’s fastest-growing tourist source markets. This surge is fueled by rising disposable incomes and a burgeoning appetite for unique international experiences – something Uganda has in abundance.

With over 50,000 trade visitors and 2,200 exhibitors from 60+ countries, OTM provides the perfect stage for Uganda to shine.

Impressive Growth and Ambitious Goals

India is already a powerhouse for Ugandan tourism, ranking as its top source market outside of East Africa. The numbers speak for themselves: arrivals from India grew from 34,208 in 2024 to a projected 42,800 in 2025.

But Uganda isn’t stopping there. Ambitious, deliberate initiatives are now underway to more than double that figure, aiming for over 100,000 Indian visitors within the next two years.

Connectivity is Key

Making these dreams a reality is easier than ever thanks to enhanced connectivity. Direct Uganda Airlines flights between Entebbe and Mumbai, coupled with a strategic interline agreement with Air India, are significantly strengthening both tourism and business ties between the two nations.
