Uganda at MITT 2026: How the Pearl of Africa Dazzled in Moscow
At the Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition (MITT) 2026, Uganda successfully positioned itself as a premier destination for the Russian market, blending high-level diplomacy with raw cultural appeal.
The curtains have drawn on the MITT International Travel & Hospitality Exhibition 2026, and the “Pearl of Africa” is returning from Moscow with significant momentum. From March 11–13 at the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Center, Uganda didn’t just showcase its landscapes; it secured a firm foothold in a high-potential market.
A Masterclass in Cultural Diplomacy
The Ugandan stand (B4003) became a vibrant hub of East African energy, especially on the third day of the exhibition. Staff from the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Moscow, alongside private sector exhibitors, traded corporate suits for the striking heritage of our nation.

The display of the Kanzu, Busuuti, Gomesi, and the Nakatukok attire of the Karamojong offered visitors a sensory connection to Uganda’s soul. This immersion proved to be a powerful magnet, drawing significant engagement from Russian travelers seeking authentic, transformative experiences.
Tangible Results: The B2B Engine
Beyond the cultural spectacle, the mission focused on measurable economic diplomacy. A dedicated Business-to-Business (B2B) workshop led by H.E. Moses K. Kizige, Head of Mission, yielded impressive results:
- Strategic Networking: A delegation of 32 Ugandan tour operators engaged directly with over 102 Russian travel companies.
- Market Impact: Initial feedback confirms that over 50 preliminary tour bookings were secured on-site from individual travelers and agencies.
- Growing Interest: Current data shows that over 400 Russians now secure Ugandan visas monthly, a number expected to rise following this week’s engagements.
The Pearl’s Winning Proposition
The Moscow market showed a particular appetite for Uganda’s unique “lifestyle and adventure” mix:
- Primate Encounters: World-renowned mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi and Mgahinga.
- The Source of the Nile: The legendary waters of Jinja, a cornerstone of African exploration.
- Diverse National Parks: Savanna safaris and world-class birding in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks.
- Heritage & Tradition: A deep interest in the traditional knowledge and cultural rituals of our 50+ ethnic groups.
A Strategic Frontier
Participation in MITT 2026 is part of a broader push to diversify Uganda’s tourism reach. By engaging directly with the Russian travel trade, the Embassy is opening new doors for collaboration and economic growth, positioning Uganda as a top-tier alternative for travelers looking beyond traditional European circuits.
“This encouraging outcome reflects the growing interest in Uganda’s tourism offerings… and strengthens the friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Uganda and the Russian Federation.” — Mission Statement, Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Moscow.
As the delegation wraps up a successful week, the message remains clear: The Pearl of Africa is not just a destination; it is an experience that is ready for the world.
