ACCRA WEIZO 2018: HO TO AKOSOMBO

…so, just after leaving the restaurant last night I find out we’re checking out of Chances Hotel in the morning at 07:00hrs. That obviously meant we’re spending our next night in another accommodation. I had to start repacking my luggage, because I had unpacked, expecting we were there for a two-night stay. I didn’t get to sleep until past midnight and I was up by 05:00hrs. The bus provided by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) was ready – it arrived last night and was parked in front of our block.
We had breakfast and left Chances Hotel, led by Mr Yao Dzide our tour guide as we head on to Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary. The drive reminds me pretty much of the Eastern Highlands in Zimbabwe, with the undulating road winding up and down hill. Along the way, Yao fed us vital information about the Volta Region, Ho and Ghana in general.
We arrived at Tafi Atome and got a briefing before we went to see the monkeys. Tafi Atome is 100% a community-based project with virtually no assistance from the government.
When we were done, we left and set out for Akosombo in the Eastern Region. Ghana has ten (10) administrative regions and we just left the Volta Region for the Eastern Region.
We paid a visit to the dam, before arriving at the luxurious Royal Senchi Resort where we met other guests who had arrived Ghana for Accra Weizo 2018. It was nice seeing Mr. Juma Khalid of Palm Tours Zanzibar. I had met him last year in Zimbabwe and later Zanzibar.
We had lunch and then went for a sunset cruise on the Akosombo Lake, the largest man-made lake in the world by surface area.
Back from the cruise, we stayed behind a while at the Royal Senchi having a good time and enjoying dinner.
After dinner a raffle was drawn from the submitted call cards and the winner got a weekend stay for two at Royal Senchi. Afterwards, we left for the Afrikiko Resort where we spent the night…
