Ghana’s Vodza Easter Regatta 2026 Returns with Bigger Celebrations, Cultural Showcase
Keta, Volta Region, Ghana — The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in partnership with the Vodza Ecotourism Initiative, Keta Municipal Assembly, traditional authorities, and key stakeholders, has officially announced the return of the Vodza Easter Regatta 2026, scheduled for April 3–5, 2026, in the coastal town of Vodza.
Now a cornerstone of Ghana’s Easter tourism calendar, the Regatta has evolved from a local canoe festival into a nationally celebrated event that draws thousands of domestic and international visitors each year. This year’s edition promises an expanded programme of cultural performances, sporting competitions, music, and curated experiences designed to spotlight the rich heritage of the Anlo people and the scenic beauty of the Southern Volta Region.
Festival Highlights Include:
- Traditional Canoe Rowing Competitions — The heart of the Regatta, where local paddlers compete in thrilling races across the lagoon waters.
- Woezor Night — An evening of cultural immersion at Keta Parks and Gardens, featuring storytelling, dance, and community feasting.
- Canoe Jam Music Festival — A vibrant beachside concert at Emancipation Beach Resort, featuring Ghanaian artists and live performances.
- Food & Craft Bazaars — Showcasing Volta-Anlo cuisine and handmade artefacts from local artisans.
- Guided Tours & Exhibitions — Designed to deepen visitors’ understanding of the region’s history, ecology, and traditions.
Tourism Meets Community Development
Beyond entertainment, the Regatta plays a vital role in promoting community-based tourism. Local vendors, guides, and hospitality providers benefit directly from the influx of visitors — turning cultural celebration into sustainable economic opportunity.
“This is more than a festival — it’s a platform for local empowerment and national branding,” said a GTA spokesperson. “We’re showcasing Ghana’s diversity, creativity, and hospitality through experiences that are authentic, immersive, and impactful.”
A Strategic Push for Regional Tourism
The event aligns with Ghana’s broader strategy to diversify its tourism offerings beyond Accra and the Central Region. By spotlighting lesser-known destinations like Keta, the GTA aims to distribute tourism revenue more equitably and encourage year-round travel across the country.
Media, corporate partners, and international travellers are invited to participate and experience the warmth, rhythm, and spirit of the Volta Region this Easter.
