Malawi: Orbis DMC Reflects on Travel, Growth & Community Impact in Historic Year 2025
Malawi-based tour operator and specialist in responsible, experience-led travel, Orbis DMC has marked the close of the year 2025 by taking stock of the past 12-month period. According to source, 2025 was a landmark year, defined by meaningful travel experiences, international growth, digital innovation and deepened community engagement across the country.
A Year of Meaningful Travel Across Malawi
Throughout 2025, Orbis DMC delivered a wide range of travel experiences, from educational school expeditions and purpose-driven group travel to bespoke private journeys. Travellers explored Malawi’s most celebrated landscapes, including Mount Mulanje, Liwonde National Park and the islands of Lake Malawi, while also engaging closely with local communities.
According to Orbis, each itinerary reinforced Malawi’s reputation as an authentic and rewarding destination, combining natural beauty with cultural depth. The company highlighted the role of its partners and repeat travellers in sustaining journeys that aim to leave a lasting and positive impact.
Entering a New Digital Era
One of the company’s major milestones in 2025 was the launch of the new Orbis DMC website. Designed with both travellers and agents in mind, the platform features modern navigation, updated itineraries and destination guides, simplified enquiry pathways and a refreshed visual identity.
Looking ahead, Orbis also announced that a dedicated Orbis Foundation website will launch soon. The new platform will focus on community initiatives, volunteer projects and long-term partnerships, offering supporters greater visibility into the Foundation’s impact work.
Team Growth and Internal Development
Internal growth was another defining feature of the year. Several interns transitioned into full-time roles across Orbis DMC and the Orbis Foundation, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to developing local talent. New appointments strengthened administrative, sales and marketing functions, while a new intern from Mzuzu University joined the team, bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
Orbis noted that this expanding and diverse team will play a central role in shaping the organisation’s future growth.
Representing Malawi on the International Stage
In 2025, Orbis DMC increased its international visibility by representing Malawi at major tourism trade shows, including ITB and WTM Cape Town. These events provided opportunities to connect with global travel partners, showcase Malawi’s potential as a responsible tourism destination and strengthen relationships with specialist agents.
The company also participated in Takulandirani Malawi, the country’s flagship tourism showcase, hosting international agents and industry stakeholders for first-hand destination experiences. Orbis said these engagements reaffirmed growing global interest in Malawi’s culture, nature and authenticity.
Expanding International Partnerships
As part of its growth strategy, Orbis DMC signed new partnership agreements with German travel agencies in 2025, aimed at expanding group travel into Malawi. The company confirmed that group tours for 2026 have already been sold, reflecting increasing international demand and confidence in Malawi as a group travel destination.
Milestones for the Orbis Foundation
The Orbis Foundation also recorded several meaningful achievements during the year. These included celebrating academic success among sponsored students, supporting environmental conservation through participation in Zomba TREEZ’s Run 4 Reforestation event, and co-organising the Island in the Sky Concert on Mount Mulanje following its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Foundation also received full approval from the Blantyre District Executive Committee to begin working with schools in Blantyre Rural, enabling expanded education support. A further milestone was securing its first Rotary Foundation grant to support a classroom renovation project in partnership with a local Rotary Club.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As Orbis DMC moves into 2026, the company has outlined plans to introduce new and improved itineraries, expanded destination content, fresh partnership offerings and deeper community engagement through the Orbis Foundation.
With continued investment in people, partnerships and purpose-driven travel, Orbis says it is looking forward to another year of innovation, meaningful journeys and stronger relationships across its global network.
