Safety First, Hospitality Always: Seychelles Issues New Tourism Weather Advisory
The Ministry for Tourism and Culture has issued a formal advisory calling on all tourism establishments across the Seychelles archipelago to implement necessary precautions in response to ongoing adverse weather conditions, placing visitor safety at the forefront of industry operations.
The advisory comes as parts of the Indian Ocean nation grapple with unsettled weather patterns, prompting authorities to urge tourism operators to maintain close communication with guests regarding rapidly developing meteorological situations.
Safety First: Restrictions on Travel to High-Risk Zones
Tourism operators have been strongly advised to keep guests continuously informed of weather developments and to explicitly discourage travel through unsafe areas. Authorities have highlighted specific risks associated with the current conditions, including landslides, mudflows, and falling debris, particularly in hilly or coastal terrain.
Where possible, establishments are encouraged to advise guests to remain indoors until conditions significantly improve. The Ministry emphasized that the well-being of visitors is the industry’s paramount responsibility, urging operators to exercise caution and prioritize shelter over sightseeing during the disruption.
Upholding Seychellois Hospitality
Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mrs. Amanda Bernstein, addressed the industry directly, calling on tourism businesses to uphold the spirit of Seychellois hospitality during this challenging period.
In a statement reinforcing the government’s stance, Mrs. Bernstein emphasized the need for understanding and compassion toward visitors whose travel plans and carefully curated activities may be unexpectedly affected by the weather.
“Where possible, establishments are encouraged to offer alternative indoor experiences while ensuring that guests receive timely updates and guidance,” the advisory stated.
The Ministry noted that adaptability and care—hallmarks of Seychellois service—should remain at the heart of every visitor interaction, even when outdoor adventures must be paused.
STB Reinforces Industry Cooperation
The Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) joined the Ministry in reinforcing the importance of visitor safety, industry cooperation, and responsible communication throughout this period. The STB highlighted that coordinated efforts between government bodies and private tourism operators are essential to maintaining the destination’s reputation for reliability and care.
“Together, we can ensure that the warmth and care of Seychellois hospitality remain at the heart of every visitor’s experience, even during challenging circumstances,” the joint advisory read.
Official Resources for Updates and Assistance
The Ministry has directed both tourists and tourism partners to rely on official channels for accurate information:
- Weather Updates: The Seychelles Meteorological Authority provides regular forecasts and warnings at www.meteo.gov.sc.
- Emergency Assistance: The Department of Risk and Disaster Management (DRDM) can be reached at 160 or 2724227 for urgent support.
Authorities are encouraging all tourism partners to remain vigilant, follow official advisories without delay, and continue prioritizing the safety of both visitors and residents alike.
