Bistrot Samantha Launches Culinary Competition Celebrating Nigerian Flavours at Christmas
The festive season is about to get a culinary upgrade with the launch of The Twelve, a new competitive platform designed to showcase the depth, diversity, and creativity of Nigerian cuisine.
Created by hospitality entrepreneur and founder of Bistrot Samantha, Chef Dumebi Agbakoba-Avisse, the initiative brings together twelve of West Africa’s most promising chefs for a high-stakes culinary showdown rooted in heritage and innovation.
A Platform for Nigerian Culinary Excellence
Speaking on the vision behind the competition, Chef Dumebi emphasized the need for dedicated spaces where local talent can thrive.
“Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with and connect with so many talented chefs and food entrepreneurs,” she said. “One thing I’ve always believed is that we need to create more platforms where culinary talent can be seen, challenged, celebrated, and given opportunities to grow.”
The Twelve is precisely that platform. Set against the backdrop of “A Very Nigerian Christmas,” the competition invites participants to reinterpret classic and contemporary Nigerian flavours, pushing the boundaries of what West African cuisine can achieve on a global stage.
More Than Just a Competition
While the title “The Twelve” suggests a contest for the crown, Chef Dumebi insists the initiative is equally about community building.
“Beyond the competition, this is about building community, encouraging collaboration, and creating experiences that bring chefs and food lovers together,” she explained. “I’m particularly excited about what this could become and the opportunities it could create for emerging culinary talent.”
The event promises to be a convergence of gastronomy, culture, and networking, offering chefs visibility, mentorship potential, and a chance to solidify their place in the region’s vibrant food scene.
Calling All Chefs
Bistrot Samantha is currently accepting registrations from chefs who wish to compete for the title. The move comes at a time when Nigerian cuisine is gaining increasing international recognition, making this a timely opportunity for local talent to step into the spotlight.
“The table is set. Who will take the crown?” Chef Dumebi asked.
