Kenya Airways Taps Safaricom’s Digital Reach to Democratize Air Travel

Integration pairs KQ’s network with M-PESA payments, brings flight booking to 57 million Safaricom subscribers via My OneApp; launch offers up to 15 per cent off fares

Nairobi, Kenya — Kenya Airways (KQ) has partnered with Safaricom to make flight booking available to more than 57 million Safaricom subscribers through the telco’s My OneApp, offering customers a simpler way to search, book and pay for travel inside a platform they already use every day. This was disclosed by the airline on its website’s news & customer updates dated 26 September 2026.

The integration places Kenya Airways’ services directly within My OneApp, creating a seamless booking experience without the need to switch between multiple applications. To mark the launch, customers will receive a 15 per cent discount on international flights and a 10 per cent discount on domestic flights, subject to applicable terms and conditions for journeys originating from Kenya.

“Bringing the World Closer to Our Customers”

Julius Thairu, Chief Commercial and Customer Officer at Kenya Airways, framed the deal as a move to widen access to air travel rather than a simple sales channel.

“This partnership is about more than booking flights. It is about bringing the world closer to our customers,” Thairu said. “By combining Kenya Airways’ global network with Safaricom’s unparalleled digital reach, we are making travel more accessible, convenient and relevant to millions of Kenyans.”

He added that the airline was leveraging technology to remove barriers to travel while creating a seamless experience from search and booking to payment, and that as Kenya’s national carrier it was proud to partner with “another iconic Kenyan brand to connect people, businesses and opportunities across Africa and the world.”

Access to 1,000 Destinations

Through My OneApp, customers can access Kenya Airways’ network across Africa and beyond, including connections available through the airline’s codeshare partnerships and SkyTeam Alliance membership, which the carrier says extends access to more than 1,000 destinations in 173 countries worldwide.

The partnership also integrates M-PESA, described by Kenya Airways as Kenya’s most preferred digital payment solution, enabling customers to complete flight bookings quickly, securely and effortlessly within a single platform .

A Bet on Digital Self-service

Kenya Airways said the collaboration comes as consumers increasingly embrace digital self-service channels, and represents a step in advancing Kenya’s digital economy. Bringing flight search, booking and payment into an ecosystem already used daily by millions reduces friction in the travel-planning process, broadens access to air travel, and strengthens Kenya’s position as a regional hub for innovation, connectivity and commerce .

Terms and conditions apply to the launch discounts; fares are valid for journeys originating in Kenya.
