South African Floods: FlySafair Suspends Hoedspruit Operations till 14 February 2026

Adopting a Safety-first commitment, FlySafair has suspended all flights to and from Hoedspruit Airport (HDS) until 14 February 2026. The information was contained in a media statement released on Monday 19 January 2025, following severe flooding across Limpopo that has damaged key airport infrastructure and compromised operational safety.

The devastating floods, recently declared a national disaster, have caused widespread destruction throughout the region. At Hoedspruit Airport, heavy rains have resulted in significant runway damage and rendered the airport’s radar system non-operational, making it unsafe for flights to depart or land at present.

“Our hearts go out to the communities across Limpopo who have been severely affected by these floods,” said Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair. “We recognise that suspending our services adds to the disruption people are already facing during an incredibly difficult time. However, the safety of our passengers and crew must always come first. The current conditions at Hoedspruit simply do not allow us to operate safely, and we will not compromise on this.”
