Radisson Hits 100-Hotel Milestone in Africa, Expands into Zimbabwe & DR Congo
Radisson Accelerates African Growth: Crosses 100-Hotel Threshold with 15 New Signings. 2,500 Rooms Signed in 12 Months, Conversion Strategy Drives Scale
Radisson Hotel Group (RHG) has officially crossed the 100-hotel mark across Africa, counting both open properties and those currently in development. The milestone comes on the back of a busy 12 months that saw the Group sign over 15 new hotels and roughly 2,500 rooms, including first-ever entries into Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
A Continent-Wide Push
With a presence in more than 30 African countries, Radisson is doubling down on key markets while pushing into new ones. Morocco, South Africa, and Nigeria remain the Group’s top priorities, but the latest pipeline shows ambition well beyond those borders.
The Group’s growth has been driven in part by conversions — taking over existing properties and rebranding them — with more than 15 hotels and nearly 3,000 rooms added this way over the past five years. This approach allows faster market entry without compromising brand standards.
“Our pipeline is built to open, not just to announce,” said Ramsay Rankoussi, Regional Chief Development Officer. “That is why our conversion share is high, our time to market is short, and our brands are gaining ground in the cities and resort destinations that matter most.”
What’s New — Country by Country
Democratic Republic of Congo — New Market Entry
Four properties are in the pipeline across Kinshasa and Lubumbashi:
| Property | Rooms | Opening |
|---|---|---|
| Radisson Blu Hotel, Kinshasa | 110 | Late 2026 |
| Radisson Hotel Lubumbashi | 97 | Mid-2027 |
| Radisson Airport Hotel Lubumbashi | 105 | 2028 |
| Radisson Blu Apartments Lubumbashi | 160 | 2030 |
The Kinshasa flagship will sit in the upscale Gombe district, while the Lubumbashi properties cater to business travellers, extended stays, and airport connectivity.
Egypt
Two new properties expand Radisson’s Egyptian footprint:
- Radisson Resort Ain Sokhna Groove (2029) — A 469-room Red Sea resort with beach access, a spa, and event facilities, located about 150 km from Cairo.
- Radisson Serviced Apartments COY, Sheikh Zayed City (2030) — A 120-key extended-stay property just 13 km from Sphinx International Airport and 14 km from the Great Pyramids of Giza.
Morocco
Three signings strengthen Radisson’s position in one of its priority markets:
- Radisson Blu Hotel & Conference Center, Casablanca Bouskoura — A 119-key conference-ready hotel next to Palm Golf, with a rooftop restaurant and spa.
- Radisson Hotel & Apartments Rabat Technopolis — A dual-building project offering 140 hotel rooms and 56 serviced apartments in the capital’s innovation park.
- Radisson Blu Resort Marrakech Ben Akil (Early 2028) — An 80-bungalow low-rise resort on a 17-hectare estate beside Royal Golf Marrakech, with Atlas Mountain views.
Nigeria
Nigeria remains one of Radisson’s strongest African markets, with 13 hotels already open or in the pipeline. Three new signings add to that count:
- Radisson Hotel Aba (2031) — 120 rooms on the Aba River, marking the brand’s first property in the city.
- Radisson Hotel & Conference Center Yenagoa (2027) — A 196-room conference-focused hotel serving southern Nigeria’s growing administrative hub.
- Radisson Collection Hotel, Lagos Atlantic (2029) — 107 rooms on Victoria Island’s oceanfront, becoming the second Radisson Collection in Lagos.
South Africa
- Radisson Serviced Apartments Umhlanga (2029) — 155 rooms in Umhlanga Ridge, steps from Gateway Theatre of Shopping, targeting the area’s strong extended-stay demand.
The Group is also eyeing Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, and leisure corridors including Kruger National Park, Sun City, and the Garden Route.
Zimbabwe — New Market Entry
Two properties mark Radisson’s debut in Zimbabwe:
- Radisson Serviced Apartments Harare (End-2028) — 147 keys in the upscale Borrowdale neighbourhood, set to be the only internationally branded apartment hotel in the area.
- Park Inn by Radisson Victoria Falls Resort (2029) — 150 rooms overlooking Zambezi National Park, just 5 km from Victoria Falls — a destination that draws over 350,000 international visitors annually.
The Bigger Picture
Radisson’s Africa strategy is clearly built around three pillars: depth in established markets, selective new market entries, and resort and leisure expansion to meet growing demand for nature-based travel. With Zanzibar, Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia also on the radar for lodge and safari opportunities, the Group shows no signs of slowing down.
