Wakanow Côte d’Ivoire Champions Women’s Health Initiative in Abidjan

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – In a significant move toward community-driven corporate social responsibility, Wakanow Côte d’Ivoire recently launched its “Wakanow pour la Santé des Femmes” (Wakanow for Women’s Health) initiative. The event, held on Wednesday, April 22, took place in Adjamé—one of Abidjan’s most vibrant and busiest markets—to provide essential healthcare services to the women who power the local economy.

The outreach program provided free medical screenings and education to over 200 traders and market women, emphasizing that the health of the community’s female entrepreneurs is vital to its overall prosperity.

Bringing Specialized Care to the Marketplace

The initiative was led by Simon Mobolaji, Regional Director for Francophone Africa, alongside the Wakanow Côte d’Ivoire team. Recognizing that market women often work long hours with little time for medical check-ups, the program brought specialized healthcare directly to their place of work.

The event was held with the strong support of the Mayor of Adjamé, M. Soumahoro Farikou, and a dedicated team of healthcare partners.

Key Achievements of the Outreach:

  • Free Medical Screenings: Provided blood pressure and blood sugar checks for 200+ women.
  • Specialized Sensitization: Expert guidance from a cardiologist and an endocrinologist.
  • Preventive Education: Instruction on symptom recognition, stress management, nutrition, and vital lifestyle changes.
  • Public-Private Collaboration: A successful partnership between local government, healthcare professionals, and the business sector.

“Behind every market stall is a woman working hard to support her family, grow her business, and keep her community moving,” Mobolaji stated. “This initiative created space for them to pause and pay attention to something essential: their health.”

A Vision Beyond Travel

Wakanow, a leader in the travel industry, expressed its belief that being a socially responsible business means creating tangible impact beyond its core services.

To conclude the event on a high note and encourage the participants to embrace new horizons, two women were surprised with fully paid visas to Dubai and France, courtesy of Wakanow.

Expansion Plans

Following the overwhelming success and growing interest from surrounding areas, Wakanow has announced plans to scale this initiative. The company’s next goal is to extend the health outreach to the communities of Treichville and Kokoviko.

As the initiative grows, Wakanow remains committed to the mantra that “Health is wealth”—and that empowering a community begins with the well-being of its women.
