Marriott International Boosts W/African Presence with Key Site Visits & Community Initiatives

Lagos, NigeriaDorcas Dlamini Mbele, Senior Director of Commercial for Sub-Saharan Africa at Marriott International, has wrapped up a strategic tour of West Africa, highlighting the company’s aggressive growth and commitment to corporate social responsibility in the region.

Accompanied by Johan Cronje, Mbele’s visit focused on assessing operational excellence and property upgrades across Marriott’s primary hubs in Ghana and Nigeria.

Modernizing the West African Footprint

The tour began in Accra, Ghana, where leadership celebrated the successful launch of the Four Points by Sheraton Accra Airport. Mbele also toured the Accra Marriott Hotel to inspect the near-completion of its highly anticipated restaurant renovation. These investments signal Marriott’s intent to maintain its edge in Ghana’s competitive luxury and business travel markets.

The delegation then transitioned to Lagos, Nigeria, conducting performance reviews and partner engagements at several flagship properties:

  • Lagos Marriott Hotel Ikeja
  • Sheraton Lagos Hotel Ikeja
  • Four Points by Sheraton Lagos
  • Protea Hotel by Marriott Ikeja Select

Hospitality Driven by Impact

A central highlight of the Lagos visit was the participation in a Marriott Business Council initiative led by Martin Bredenoord. Senior leadership joined local teams to pack essential meals for the Little Saints Orphanage, reinforcing the brand’s “Spirit to Serve” philosophy.

“The work happening across Nigeria is an inspiring reminder of the meaningful impact we can make together,” Mbele stated. “The foundations being built today are setting us up for a strong pipeline of exciting new openings coming soon.”

A Robust Pipeline

The visit underscored a bullish outlook for the region. Mbele specifically credited the work of Damilola Adepoju Okunoren and the development team for securing a “strong pipeline” of future properties.

As West Africa continues to emerge as a global business destination, Marriott’s focus on high-tier renovations and community-centric leadership positions the group to dominate the Sub-Saharan hospitality landscape in the coming years.
