Minor Hotels has appointed industry veteran Tamer Khedr as Managing Director for Egypt, signaling a significant step in the company’s expansion strategy in one of its key emerging markets.

The newly created role reflects the global hospitality group’s commitment to strengthening its leadership presence in Egypt as it accelerates development across the country. Khedr will oversee both operations and development, with a mandate to drive portfolio growth while maintaining operational standards across existing and upcoming properties.

Minor Hotels, which operates more than 640 properties across 66 countries, has identified Egypt as a strategic priority within its Middle East and Africa expansion plans. The company’s recent investments underscore this focus, including the signing of the Anantara Somabay Resort & Residences and a landmark joint venture with SUNRISE Resorts & Cruises to develop up to 50 hotels over the next decade.

Khedr brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience to the role, spanning hotel operations, asset management, and large-scale mixed-use developments. He joins from DO Hotels, where he served as Chief Executive Officer. His previous roles include senior leadership positions with Emaar Hospitality Group, as well as experience at Baron Palace Sahl Hasheesh and Shangri-La Dubai.

“Tamer’s extensive industry experience and strong leadership credentials make him exceptionally well positioned for the role,” said Amir Golbarg, Chief Operating Officer for Minor Hotels Middle East & Africa. “Egypt is one of the most strategically important markets in our growth journey, and this appointment reflects our long-term commitment to the country.”

Egypt’s tourism sector has seen renewed momentum in recent years, with increased investment in resort destinations and hospitality infrastructure. Minor Hotels’ expansion strategy aims to capitalize on this growth by developing a diverse portfolio that includes hotels, resorts, and Nile cruise experiences.

Khedr said he is joining the company at a pivotal moment. “Egypt continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s most compelling tourism destinations,” he noted. “I look forward to working with our teams and partners to support expansion, elevate guest experiences, and contribute to the continued success of the country’s hospitality sector.”

The appointment reinforces Minor Hotels’ ambition to deepen its footprint in Egypt and position itself as a major player in the country’s evolving tourism landscape.
