MY ZIMBABWE DIARY XI: DAY 2 OF SANGANAI/HLANGANANI 2016…
June 17, 2016…
The Expo continued, but Michael and I didn’t get to the ZITF Grounds until evening for the official Opening Ceremony. We had some urgent news materials to send down to Lagos and the pictures had to be resized for easy upload. Afterwards we went on a stroll downtown.
We had said we would show up at the Expo grounds in the afternoon, but we changed our minds when we got back to our rooms and just decided to rest. Meanwhile, I got to see my Facebook friend from Bulawayo, Yona Phiri who came down to meet me at Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel, and he got a copy of The Last Outcast by Rev. Chris Okotie from me.
Later on in the day, I took another walk around the area, before getting set for the evening event. The opening ceremony was a grand event thrown by the host and we enjoyed the various performances that lit up the stage.
We headed back to the hotel afterwards and a couple of us went out after dinner. The Bulawayo Music Festival was on going about the same time as Sanganai World Tourism Expo and a couple of artistes on the lineup included Gemma Griffiths who was on hand for the welcome reception last night, and Oliver Mtukudzi. Both had finished their performances when we arrived though…
The performance was an open air affair and the night was freaking cold. We couldn’t stay too long and soon hopped on the bus back to the hotel. Phew! Must have been the coldest night I have experienced so far…
