Prominent Nigerian politician Senator Florence Ita-Giwa (Mama Bakassi) is set to make a grand appearance as celebrity chef at the 3rd Jollof Rice War which will take place during the 15th Akwaaba African Travel Market in September 2019 at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Senator Ita-Giwa who celebrated her 73rd birthday earlier in the year is a woman of many parts. She leads a band at the annual Carnival Calabar, Africa’s biggest street party; and is also the proprietor of Echoes of Calabar, a restaurant which was opened in Lagos earlier in the year.

The Jollof Rice War made its début at Akwaaba African Travel Market 2017 as a subtle campaign for culinary tourism and the cooking contest was won by the Orange Cap Chef from Nigeria. The judges for the event include: Didier Bayeye (Sun International) and Safie Ali (CEO, Sathco African Safaris), with Charity Githinji (Tandanza Africa) as chief judge. The event is billed for the opening day of Akwaaba African Travel Market, Sept. 22, 2019.
