Botswana Tourism Champions Unified Vision to Bolster Industry Competitiveness
Maun, Botswana – In a significant step toward industrial harmony and growth, the Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) has concluded a series of high-level stakeholder engagements in Maun, aimed at forging a unified vision for the nation’s tourism sector.
The sessions were held as part of a broader outreach initiative by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Honourable Wynter Mmolotsi, highlighting the government’s commitment to collaborative governance.
A Bedrock of Resilience
Speaking during the industry engagement, BTO Board Member Mr. Kabo Motswagole expressed profound gratitude to tourism operators and local stakeholders. He characterized their “unwavering commitment, continued investment, and innovation” as the fundamental bedrock of Botswana’s global tourism competitiveness.

Mr. Motswagole emphasized that the BTO is moving toward a model of structured and consistent dialogue with industry associations. This shift is designed to align national priorities and ensure that collective efforts yield a more significant impact on the economy.
Key Strategic Pillars for Growth
To maintain Botswana’s status as a “destination of choice,” Mr. Motswagole outlined several critical focus areas that will anchor the BTO’s facilitative role in the coming years:
- Global Positioning: Enhancing destination marketing to capture emerging international markets.
- Product Diversification: Developing new tourism products to broaden the sector’s appeal.
- Quality & Standards: Strengthening industry benchmarks to ensure world-class service delivery.
- Investment & Coordination: Unlocking new investment opportunities while improving communication between the public and private sectors.
Sustainable and Inclusive Future
The BTO’s forward-looking strategy places a heavy emphasis on creating an enabling environment that supports business growth without compromising the country’s natural integrity.
“Our goal is to advance sustainable tourism practices that safeguard Botswana’s natural heritage while delivering inclusive economic benefits to all citizens,” Motswagole stated.
The engagement concluded with a powerful call to action for all stakeholders to remain aligned in their shared ambition. By building a resilient, competitive, and inclusive industry, Botswana aims to solidify its reputation as a global leader in sustainable travel.
