Alain St. Ange Offers Support for New UN Tourism Sec-Gen Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais
The former Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine of the Seychelles, Alain St. Ange, who was also one of the candidates for the post of Secretary-General at United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UN Tourism) has added his voice to positive news from the 26th UN Tourism General Assembly in Saudi Arabia.
St. Ange was reacting to the confirmation of the new Secretary General at 26th UN Tourism General Assembly in Saudi Arabia. “I join the world of tourism in welcoming Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais from The UAE as the new Secretary-General for UN Tourism. This is an overdue piece of good news that will get UN Tourism back on its rail. An organisation for the tourism industry of the world needed once again to be seen and heard by industry players as the body they respect and one operating in all transparency” said Alain St. Ange.

With Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais of the United Arab Emirates now confirmed as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) and set to take office on the 1st January 2026 will need the support of every Tourism Minister, and from the entire tourism industry at large.
“Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais will need to be press friendly and work with the tourism fraternity as one. She becomes the first woman to lead this global tourism body and I join the community of nations to simply say ‘Welcome.’”
The new Secretary-General, Shaikha Al Nowais succeeds Zurab Pololikashvili of Georgia, who has served two consecutive terms since 2018. “I wish the incoming SG a smooth run in her time in office. May she learn from Pololikashvili’s term in office and unite the world of tourism and embrace all the capable and respected SG of the former UNWTO” concluded St. Ange.
Alain St. Ange was one of the leading candidates at the 2017 UNWTO elections for the position of Secretary General when against all odds Zurab Pololikashvili won the tourism industry’s highest office.
