Zambia Tourism Agency Opens Recruitment for Next Chief Executive Officer
The Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) has officially launched a search for its next Chief Executive Officer to steer the country’s tourism and hospitality sector toward sustainable growth. Established under the Tourism and Hospitality Act Chapter 155 of the Laws of Zambia, the statutory body is seeking an executive to market the nation as a premier destination while enforcing regulatory standards across the industry.
Partnering with executive recruitment firm CV People Africa (CVPA), the ZTA is looking for a leader to execute its Strategic Plan, bolster financial sustainability, and grow international and domestic tourist arrivals. The incoming CEO will be tasked with aligning agency operations with Vision 2030 and the Tourism Master Plan (2018–2038).
Core Mandate and Governance
The agency’s key priorities for the position span nine core competencies, including commercial marketing, public-private partnership (PPP) mobilization, organizational restructuring, and strict regulatory oversight. Beyond promotional efforts, the role carries a heavy regulatory component, encompassing licensing, grading, and industry compliance across Zambia’s hospitality sector.
Candidate Requirements
According to the vacancy announcement, prospective candidates must possess:
- Education: A Full Form V / Grade 12 School Certificate alongside a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, Tourism and Hospitality Management, or a related field. All qualifications must be certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years’ relevant experience, with at least 6 years serving in a senior management capacity, preferably within tourism, hospitality, marketing, or a statutory regulatory body.
- Competencies: Executive presence with proven experience navigating government relations, ministerial representation, diplomatic engagements, and high-stakes investor negotiations.
