Seychellois Society of Hoteliers & Tourism Professionals Launches with Mike Valentin Named Chair
Victoria, Seychelles – A new nonprofit organization dedicated to uniting the people behind Seychelles’ thriving tourism industry has officially taken shape. The Seychellois Society of Hoteliers & Tourism Professionals (SSHTP) was finalized this week by a group of founding members who share a common vision: to connect people, share experience, grow local talent, and raise the bar for hospitality across the archipelago.
On October 8, 2026, key figures in the industry gathered at the Seychelles Tourism Academy to finalize the working group’s details and targets. The meeting solidified the structure of the SSHTP as a non-political home for everyone who makes Seychelles tourism work—from hoteliers and tour operators to educators, entrepreneurs, and both rising and retired talent.
A Collaborative Approach
The SSHTP positions itself not as a replacement for existing tourism bodies, but as a complementary force working alongside them. During the finalization meeting, the founding members confirmed that the Society will operate on five guiding pillars: Connect, Develop, Mentor, Advise, and Promote.
“We believe that when joining together, Seychelles tourism can shape a stronger, proudly Seychellois future,” the group stated. The Society is now moving to rally professionals across the sector to join as members, mentors, sponsors, or collaborators.
Key Initiatives Announced
The SSHTP has outlined an ambitious roadmap of programs designed to invest in human capital and industry standards. Key initiatives include:
- Tourism Mentorship Program: Designed to guide young Seychellois entering the workforce.
- Leadership Program: Focused on cultivating the next generation of industry leaders.
- Annual Tourism Professionals Forum: A platform for dialogue and networking.
- Knowledge & Heritage Project: Preserving and sharing the rich history of Seychelles hospitality.
- Excellence Awards: Recognizing outstanding contributions to the sector.
In addition to these major pillars, the Society plans to host masterclasses, career talks, and regular networking events to foster continuous professional development.
Leadership
Mike Valentin, a seasoned hospitality professional returning from years of work in the USA, has assumed the Chairmanship of the Society. He joins a distinguished founding team including Roland Georges, Alain St. Ange, John Stravens, Peter Moncherry, Melton Ernesta, Michel Marie, Derek Barbe, Herdson Philo, Christian Albest, and Walter Confait.
While unable to attend the final October meeting due to travel, founding member Paul Derjacques remains actively committed to the Society’s mission of supporting the pillar of the Seychellois economy.
As the SSHTP moves from planning to action, the focus remains clear: building a more connected, skilled, and proud tourism community for the islands.
