Minor Hotels Brings Anantara Brand to Egypt’s Red Sea with Somabay Resort
Cairo, Egypt — Minor Hotels has signed a landmark agreement to develop Anantara Somabay Resort & Residences, a new luxury destination set to open in May 2030 on Egypt’s Red Sea coast. The project marks a major step in the global hospitality group’s expansion strategy across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.
Located within the Somabay masterplan, the resort will feature 300 hotel keys and 150 branded residential units, offering a mix of sea-view rooms, lagoon suites, beach villas, and ultra-exclusive pool villas—including a signature Grand Royal Beach & Pool Villa. The residential component will include stylish apartments and private beachfront villas equipped with dedicated boat dock piers, catering to both extended stays and ownership living.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone for the future of luxury hospitality in Egypt,” said Deema Abu Ghazaleh, Chairman of Somabay Hotel Company. “Together with Minor Hotels, we will further elevate the Red Sea coast as a premier global destination while honoring the essence of this remarkable location.”

The resort will be complemented by a vibrant dining scene, curated wellness offerings, and family-friendly leisure facilities, all designed to support a relaxed yet enriching lifestyle. Its strategic location, just 45 minutes from Hurghada International Airport, ensures strong connectivity to key European and Middle Eastern markets.
Amir Golbarg, COO of Minor Hotels Middle East & Africa, emphasized the alignment of visions:
“Our partnership with Somabay Hotel Company SAE is central to our vision to expand Anantara into destinations that support both luxury hospitality and branded residences in Egypt.”
